GENERAL DUTIES:Responsible for delivering direct patient therapy specific to activity, recreation, life skills and/or art in group and individual sessions in accordance with Hospital Policy. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment.General Duties and Responsibilities:1.Reports any observed unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.2.Utilizes standard precautions. Ensures patients and family members attending activities follow Standard Precautions.3. Ensures work area (Activity Room) free of hazardous or potentially dangerous materials. 4.Observes patients during group sessions and at all times when present on the Unit. Promptly reports any change in condition to the appropriate person.5.Reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department timely.6.Ensures call lights are answered timely when not involved in activities or other duties. Reports patient need to the appropriate personnel.7.Covers for Unit Secretary at lunchtime and as needed/requested by Director. Enters orders into appropriate computer system, and makes telephone requests as needed.8.Adheres to hospital attendance/tardiness policy.9.Participates in orientation of all new staff as needed.10.Participates in P.I. activities as requested by Director.11.Demonstrates guest relations in communication, cooperation and in giving assistance to patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner. Exceeding the his component is demonstrated by the Unit achieving 4 or 5 star PSMS scores overall in a majority of months of the year.12.Acts as the patients advocate and assures that patient rights are upheld.13.Observes for and promptly reports to the appropriate Clinical Manager, Director or Ombudsman, and observed patient abuse. Immediately intervenes appropriately if observes abuse in order to protect the patient from harm. Understands the law as it pertains to mandated reporting.14.Participates in all Code Blue, Fire, Disaster and other emergency drill when present to ensure knows role in event of actual emergency.15.Attends all Ethics and other education required by the Hospital , Unit or Director.16.Other duties as appropriately assigned by Unit Director.
Qualifications: POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Required:1.High School Diploma or GED2.Have two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, one year of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.3.Be an occupational therapist, art therapist, music therapist, dance therapist, recreation therapist or occupational therapy assistant.4.Have satisfactorily completed at least 36 hours of training in a course designed specifically for this position and approved by the Department and shall receive regular consultation from an occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant or recreation therapist who has at least one year of experience in a health care setting. 5.Completion of an approved Activities Program with possession of a Certificate of Completion.6.Current American Heart Association BLS (maintain current at all times).Job: Non-Clinical/AdministrativePrimary Location: Palm Springs, CaliforniaHospital Location: Desert Regional Medical CenterJob Type: PT1Shift Type: Days Employment practices will not be influenced or affected by an applicant’s or employee’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status or any other legally protected status.
