Under general supervision performs operations in an established sequence for the plating of metal and/or plastic parts. This includes such activities as cleaning, rinsing, drying, masking, honing, racking and plating to impart the desired coating at the required thickness. Proceeds on standard work with minimum direction, with instructions and guidance provided on new work, work involving variables, or work that may encounter processing difficulties.
Measures and mixes required plating or cleaning solutions to accomplish the required results in performing plating operations. Periodically tests solutions using appropriate testing devices and introducing additives required to keep the solutions at the proper strength, density and temperature.
Regulates current input and plating time to obtain the desired thickness of plate. Controls and assures that the type of materials being deposited and coated are in conformance with job specifications.
Uses barrels, baskets, racks or hangars to complete assignments. Improvises special equipment and procedures as work performance may require.
Work is performed using customer orders, specifications, and formulas to achieve the desired results. Uses appropriate solution testing instruments, micrometers, calipers, scales, etc. to assure accuracy of work being performed.
Maintains required record keeping and clerical functions involving time, materials, quantity and quality factors involved in the plating assignment.
Monitors operation of pumps and filters to assure their proper functioning to achieve the desired results of the assignment.
Other duties include skimming solution in the plating tanks, cleaning buss bars, checking anode baskets, and cleaning anode and cathode connections.
May assign, instruct and review work of Plater Assistant personnel.
Minimum 2 years experience
Salary Range: $12.00-20.00/hour (salary commensurate with experience)
