Electrical Engineer: High voltage pulsed power circuit design, fabrication, and engineering.
Seeking a postdoctoral research associate for pulsed high voltage research and engineering. The primary purpose of this research is to improve engine and combustion processes and efficiency by the generation transient plasmas that enhance combustion chemistry, reduce ignition delay, achieve improved lean burn capability. For example, the application to engines will benefit from research and engineering into reducing the size and weight of he pulse generation systems, and increasing the reliability of the systems.
Circuit design experience and an understanding of electromagnetic compatibility and high voltage insulation, shielding and connectivity would be very valuable, and background in pulsed power, power electronics and/or high voltage technology is a plus. In general, the postdoc requires familiarity with circuit design from conception through implementation: calculation, simulation, layout assembly, verification, etc. The group specializes in developing high voltage, high current, nanosecond pulsed power systems. These systems typically produce kW - MW of power for a period of nanoseconds, and although high peak power, relatively low total energy.
PH.D. or equivalent doctorate within previous three years.
