The position is located at the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLAHCS) in the CERS: HUD-VASH program. The primary purpose of the Housing Management Assistant is to establish and maintain relationships with landlords, private agencies, non-profit agencies, and governmental agencies who serve the homeless, as well as VA staff who work with Veterans in need of transitional or permanent housing.
Develop a database of affordable housing resources for reference in locating appropriate housing and Maintain housing directory which should include all contacts with housing providers and contact information.
Obtain current listings from local housing authorities.
Assist HUD-VASH Veterans in their housing search including identifying available units, contacting landlords to arrange a tour of the property, provide transportation to tour the property, and assists the Veteran in completing the lease application process.
Develops and maintains a network of housing providers in order to increase the pool of available housing options for clients.
Assists the Veteran in obtaining deposit assistance for HUD-VASH apartment including collection of required documents, matching the Veteran with appropriate funding source, providing transportation for application process and following up with funding source to expedite payment to the landlord.
Provide information and instructions to clients regarding tenant rights and responsibilities, including the importance of observing lease agreement and tenant rules.
Attend meetings and training conferences as requested. Complete paperwork and reports as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is based in West Los Angeles and will require travel throughout Los Angeles County driving a government vehicle. Occasional travel may be required to surrounding counties.
Qualifications & Evaluations
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is experience in one or more of the following: property management, housing search services, or housing assistance programs.
Education: Four years above high school of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience as described above may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
