Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Senior Director of Business and Finance, the Digital Print Manager will manage the day to day operations of Cal Poly Print and Copy, providing a wide range of digital graphic services for the Cal Poly campus community.
The Manager must have the ability to understand and productively use various pieces of technology and equipment, the knowledge to solve technical problems with both the hardware and the software, and to train staff on equipment.
Provide daily operational oversight of the Print and Copy staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, timekeeping, assigning work, and general supervision.
Oversee production and work flow, scheduling jobs, and troubleshooting issues with digital files, equipment, software, deadlines, and other elements of print production.
Manage inventory according to established protocol.
Maintain all coin and bill operated Print & Copy equipment and self-service supplies across campus.
Provides excellent customer service and resolves complaints.Duties and Responsibilities Manage, and direct the day to day operations of Print & Copy and production work flow for job inception, proofing, running, binding, packaging, and delivery Implements policies and procedures to enable quality control measures Make final decisions on interpreting store policies for the best outcome for the customer and the store Create and maintain pricing structures for products and services Oversee online ordering site, and create and edit work orders Estimate simple to complex print orders and advise customers on print and bindery options or limitation; verify quality of layout and artwork Perform technical assessments of print orders and recommend adjustments and revisions to production staff Edit, print and display pre-made marketing posters and edit main webpages Anticipates problems and resolves conflicts in the production process to allow for timely completion of work Hire, schedule, train, assign work, implement policy, guidelines and procedures, evaluate, promote, discipline assigned staff Develops and grows business operations Coordinate all outsourced printing jobs Collect and create cash deposits for coin and bill operated equipment and self-service supplies Manage and direct finances and inventories through pricing and invoicing of inter-departmental charges, weekly partial and monthly total physical inventories, and supply ordering from multiple vendors Develop and manage the annual budget for Cal Poly Print and Copy and present the budget for approval Maintain a productive and safe work environment Provide excellent customer service Perform other duties assignedSupervisory Responsibilities Directly supervise assigned employees.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Corporation's policies and applicable laws and regulations Supervise the daily activities of the department, including but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, training and resources necessary to meet performance standards and assist employees in improving performance relevant to job requirements Develop and implement an effective performance and department goals and objectives, provide performance evaluations, and implement appropriate counseling Direct and monitor employees to ensure that they remain in compliance with policies and procedures Subordinates may include: student, intermittent and full time staff
High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 4 years of progressive, responsible experience, preferably in print management Knowledge of and ability to operate printing equipment including hardware and software for large format printing, binding and laminating Ability to print from multiple file types Knowledge of inventory control procedures Ability to perform complex, highly responsible and confidential duties Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet time lines Ability to lead others in managing tasks; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff, Board of Directors, university community, including students, faculty and staff, and the public Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance Possession of a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record A background check is required for all regular benefited positions The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employmentPhysical Requirements Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrist to operate a computer keyboard and calculator Seeing to read a variety of materials Sitting or standing for extended period of time Physical agility to lift 40 pounds to shoulder height Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects Commuting on an as needed basis to outside meetings and training locations
