Job Posting: First Cook ensures high quality of food processing by strict adherence to proper production techniques and following production order and schedule under minimal supervision. May be required to be First Cook for Deluxe Services, or other areas assigned, and may be required to audit the work of cooks and others. Is responsible for the sanitation of all Specialized cooking equipment assigned to area. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the cultural, age, developmental, and environmental safety issues of the patient population(s) served. Works in collaboration with leadership staff to provide high quality nutrition care and food service.
Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements:
A minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent desire. Completion of certificate program in food service or comparable training preferred.
Four (4) years cooking or comparable work experience, with minimum of four (4) years stable work experience. Organizational ability to include coordination of multiple tasks within established timeframes, excellent interpersonal skills, and must be customer oriented. Must be able to show creative ability. Must possess a minimum computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows or comparable system.
Must be able to communicate in English, verbally and in writing, with staff, customers, and patients over the telephone or in person.
Work Environment (work environments, hazards and exposures the employee may encounter on the job):
Must be able to perform assigned duties in a work environment with temperature changes- extreme cold when working in and around freezers, and extreme heat when working around ovens, grills, broilers, steamers. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases, Subject to irregular hours; occasionally covering varied shifts, Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Subject to regular changing priorities and work assignments. Subject to interruptions. Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit condition. Subject to moderate noise level in work environment.
Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking)
Must be able to distinguish color coded dating systems to assure proper food rotation. Must be able to lift and move cases of supplies and/or food product weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to prepare and present food attractively for customers and/or patients. Must be able to stand and walk distances over the greater portion of the assigned shift. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling.
