This job posting is for a Department of Defense supported post-doctoral research position in the laboratories of Dr. Stephen Shiao and Dr. David Underhill in the department of Radiation Oncology and Division of Immunology Research in the department of Biomedical Sciences at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Our laboratories are part of a vibrant and growing research programs in Cancer Biology and the Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute which will provide excellent opportunities for career development in cancer biology, immunology and gastrointestinal research. This position is for a project studying the role of the microbiome in regulating intestinal immune responses in different disease models including radiation enteropathy and colitis. We employ a variety of techniques including next generation sequencing, multicolor flow cytometry, quantitative immunohistochemistry and super resolution and multiphoton microscopy to study intestinal and systemic inflammatory responses.
For this postdoctoral research position, the candidate would be expected to work independently on research projects designed in conjunction with two investigators: Dr. Stephen Shiao and Dr. David Underhill. Candidates with experience in immunology, cancer biology, innate immunity, microbiome and/or radiation biology are preferred. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture and willingness to work with murine models is required. Familiarity with immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, advanced sequencing techniques and bioinformatics is helpful but not required. The postdoctoral scientist will assist in designing and conducting experiments, collection and analysis of data, preparation of data for publication and grant submission, presenting at both local and national meetings and applying for fellowships and grants. Teaching of other research staff, students, residents and fellows may be required.

M.D., Ph.D., or dual M.D., Ph.D
M.D. or Ph.D. in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, physiology, cancer biology or related field. Experience in molecular biology and cell culture techniques is required with experience in animal handling a plus. We are seeking highly motivated and creative candidates with a track record of successful research who can independently design and execute experiments. Candidates must possess good command of both written and spoken English and will be encouraged to write applications for extramural funding. Applicants should have good organizational skills and work well with other lab members. Research will involve working with animals, primarily mice.
