Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Electrical: Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems; repairs electrical fixtures at buildings and field locations; repairs, installs, and maintains equipment, such as motors, lighting circuits, timers, clocks and other power equipment; repairs or replaces switches, outlets and wiring; replaces light bulbs; and performing related electrical and maintenance work on building, playgrounds, parks and athletic fields and courts.
Carpentry: Troubleshoots and repairs doors, windows, floors, gates, roofs and ceilings. Repairs installs and constructs tables, shelves, cabinets, counter tops and other wood and equipment fixtures. Performs hand and bench work, operates power saws and other woodworking machinery. Installs tile and carpet as necessary. Constructs new walls, ceilings and flooring; handles masonry work, performs cement, plaster, tile, brick and carpeting work. Constructs, installs, maintains and repairs a variety of park equipment such as benches, barbecue pits, fire rings, tables, signs, fences, posts and playground equipment.
Painting: Prepares surfaces for painting or staining. Applies paint to buildings, walls, fixtures or equipment. Removes or covers graffiti throughout the City as needed.
Plumbing: Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, water filtration systems and water heaters. Unstops drains and toilets.
H.V.A.C.: Troubleshoots mechanical systems for basic problems, performs routine maintenance, cleans units, adjusts thermostats and coordinates with vendors as needed.
Grounds: Performs grounds keeping and landscape maintenance functions such as mowing, edging, tree trimming, watering, weeding, fertilizing, sodding, raking and cultivating, maintains flowers and shrubs, performs pesticide treatment as assigned. Troubleshoots and repairs irrigation systems. Installs and repairs minor and complex irrigation equipment. Operates motor driven turf maintenance equipment.
General: Loads and unloads supplies, materials, equipment. Purchases needed supplies, parts and materials. Writes service orders from verbal requests, completes paperwork when repairs are finished. Maintains tools and equipment. Inspects park and building components and performs preventive maintenance. Moves and sets up furniture. Performs general locksmithing duties. Opens and secures City buildings and facilities. Operates motor driven equipment; including trucks, tractors, tow equipment trailers and other related equipment. Installs and repairs cooling/heating window units. Leads assigned temporary helpers. Perform related duties as assigned.
|Facility Maintenance Worker I|
High School Diploma or equivalent and six months of construction, maintenance or related work experience. Additional training and vocational certification in the building trades is desirable.
Facility Maintenance Worker II
High School Diploma or equivalent and a combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to three years as a Facility Maintenance Worker I. Additional training and vocational certification in the building trades is desirable.
Knowledge of: Standard practices, methods, materials and equipment used in building and construction trades; carpentry, painting, plumbing, some electrical work and concrete maintenance; occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the work; operations and applications of a variety of construction tools and equipment.
In addition, the Facilities Maintenance Worker II will have knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials and equipment used in building construction trades; occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the work; operations and application of a variety of construction tools and equipment.
Ability to: Perform skilled maintenance and repair-work in either the plumbing, electrical, painting or carpentry trades. Use and care for tools, supplies and materials required in the work; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform mathematical calculations in order to obtain estimates; maintain routine logs, timecards and forms; perform continuous heavy physical work safety, such as operating various equipment and tools; loading and unloading materials; performs heavy lifting of approximately 100 pounds; work independently or as a crew member, ability to establish and maintain courteous, effective public relations and to work harmoniously with others; operate a variety of motorized and mechanized equipment and tools, crew trucks, compressors, skip loaders, backhoes, generators, concrete saws, etc.
In addition , the Facilities Maintenance Worker II will have the ability to: perform a variety of skilled construction, installation, maintenance and repair work at or approaching the journey level in plumbing, electrical, painting, heating ventilation and air conditioning, or carpentry trade areas. Effectively operate such tools as a radial arm saw, drill, power saw, jackhammer, hammer, drill and associate hand tools; read and understand blueprints, construction drawings and schematics; understand and follow oral and written instructions and specifications; diagnose problems in the field; work independently in the absence of specific instructions. Work effectively with others encountered in the course of work.
Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and an acceptable driving record required.
Within twelve (12) months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain a Pesticide Handlers License.
***Position will receive an additional 5% base wage salary increase beginning July 1, 2018; and an additional 5% base salary increase beginning July 1, 2019.***
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction, installation, maintenance and repair work on municipal buildings, parks and related equipment. Incumbents may be required to work rotational stand-by assignments at the discretion of the Department Head and are subject to callback as needed. Incumbents must live within a 45 minute response time. Responds to emergency and disaster call out work and assists other departments as needed.
