DUTIESThe incumbent serves as a Housekeeping Aid for the Environmental Management Service at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in Long Beach, California. The Housekeeping Aid performs a sequence of tasks that result in a clean, safe and sanitary environment for visitors, patients, and employees throughout all of the facilities. The duties for this position includes using a variety of cleaning equipment, responsible for basic maintenance of equipment, using a broad selection of cleaning solutions and floor-care products, following specific instructions covering proper mixing, handling and securing of toxic chemicals and solutions, responsible for information contained in the Hazardous Materials/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), responding to hazardous infectious material spills or release, segregating all medical waste from regular waste, responsible for the collection and disposal of non-reusable containers, assisting designated bed makers and nursing staff with making beds, and recording/documenting the number refills of hand-soap dispensers. The purpose of the work is to maintain a safe, sanitary and clean work environment within the various facilities of the organization.
