The senior development writer will be responsible for developing content that is engaging and compelling and tells the Clinic's story to a wide variety of supporters. The writer will research story ideas, write and edit material, and advise on communications strategy to support the Clinic's fundraising program. This position reports to the chief development officer and will also coordinate closely with the Clinic's communication team.
The writer will be responsible for developing a voice for donor communications by executing a range of products including but not limited to:
Marketing brochures and one-pagers to communicate Venice Family Clinic's mission and impact to a broad range of donors and prospective donors
Articles and profiles for various Clinic print and online products to tell the story about supporters, staff, patients, and donor-funded programs
Creative fundraising appeals to solicit gifts from prospective donors
Products for events including thematic concepts for marketing, invitation copy, talking points and scripts, and the development of PR strategies. Venice Family Clinic engages supporters through a robust calendar of events including Venice Art Walk & Auctions held each May at Google Los Angeles.
Website, video and social media content
Correspondence to donors including letters and stewardship reports to communicate the impact of philanthropic support
Other material as needed
The writer will be part of an experienced team of development and communications professionals and also needs to interface with a diverse set of stakeholders including Venice Family Clinic's staff, patients, donors, volunteers, partners and community members. Other duties as assigned within Venice Family Clinic.
The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism or narrative writing, as well as marketing communications, preferably in a non-profit setting. Other qualifications include:
Excellent writing, editing, and visual skills to shape stories and messages in innovating and engaging ways that will motivate donors and potential donors
Excellent organization skills and ability to develop and execute a strategic editorial calendar
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
An understanding of communication strategies for a range of platforms including print, web, and multimedia
Ability to direct graphic designers and other technical experts to develop final print, online or video products; strong preference for candidates who also bring their own design and visual experience.
A commitment to creativity and quality
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with staff; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A passion for public health, health services issues and social justice preferred.
Demonstrated advanced experience with tools in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, or their equivalents.
Absolute discretion with regard to confidential donor information. Ability to work evenings and weekends. California driver's license, car, and proof of auto insurance

Ability to oversee multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
