Pharmacy Manager, Regulatory Surveillance

Duties: Ensure pharmacy compliance with medication-related regulatory standards of several regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission (TJC), the Department of Public Health Services (OHS), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the California State Board of Pharmacy. Supervise the Compliance and Controlled Substances Surveillance team and provide regulatory oversight of diagnostic and procedural areas as well as outpatient clinics. Interpret current regulatory standards to determine medication-related requirements and educate department staff and other clinical staff accordingly to ensure all regulatory requirements and job competencies are met. Represent the Pharmacy Services Department in all regulatory meetings and collaborate inter-departmentally to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements. Responsible for ongoing Controlled Substances evaluations in inpatient and outpatient areas to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Coordinate State Board Sterile Compounding Licensure Surveys in collaboration with Pharmacy Management Team. Lead the Pharmacy Services departmental performance improvement program. Analyze results of performance improvement studies to identify performance improvement opportunities and uphold existing performance improvement indicators. Serve as an expert resource for physicians, nurses, patients, and hospital staff on all pharmacy-related regulatory requirements. Maintain regulatory educational materials for the Pharmacy team. Maintain and update the Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual. Precept Pharmacy residents and students during Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Hospital rotations, respectively, and regularly give feedback on short and long-term departmental unit goals and programs. Support accreditation process for Health- System Pharmacy Administration Residency. Supervise pharmacists (2) and pharmacy technicians (3). Routinely audit staff personnel files to ensure regulatory compliance. Serve the Pharmacy Administrative staff as Administrator on Duty (AOD). Provide staffing support by performing the responsibilities of an inpatient clinical pharmacist.
Requirements: Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent plus one (1) year of pharmacy resident, pharmacist, pharmacy specialist or related practice experience, including evaluating medication regimens, providing recommendations and monitoring use of drugs; interpreting patient medical management plans; assessing and applying current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles for drug product selection and use in a clinical setting; employing techniques of pharmaceutical calculations, compounding and pharmacokinetics; and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and standards relative to pharmacy practice. Must have valid CA pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure.
