JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Air Monitoring Specialist

 

FLSA Classification                 Salary Range                                                   Bargaining Unit

Under direction of the Air Pollution Control Officer (APCO), the Air Monitoring Specialist position supervises the daily activities of the District Air Monitoring Division including oversight of the installation, maintenance, and repair of air pollution measuring or testing devices and instruments to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal air quality regulations; assisting in design and modification of air pollution devices; preparation and public presentation of plans, technical reports, and other documents detailing the District monitoring activities; develop, implement, and oversee the air monitoring quality assurance program; ability to coordinate activities and establish positive working relationships with the public, organizations, and other agencies, and; implements and administers special programs such as the wildfire monitoring program, special air quality studies, and grants.

 

Successful performance of the work requires thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal air quality regulations as well as air pollution monitoring equipment and techniques. The job includes desk work and fieldwork. Responsibilities include supervising Air Monitoring Technicians and overseeing the complex and varied functions of the monitoring division, as well as coordinating the activities of the division with other divisions and outside agencies. The incumbent is accountable for accomplishing divisional planning, successful operations, and working towards District goals and objectives within general policy guidelines.
