Electrician / Trades Technician III Facilities Management Full-Time, Classified, Non-Exempt Position #00453 Longwood University is an institution of higher learning dedicated to the development of citizen leaders who are prepared to make positive contributions to the common good of society. In support of this mission, we invite qualified applicants to apply for the position of Electrician/Trades Technician III in the Facilities Management Department. This position is considered emergency personnel, which requires the selected candidate to report to work or be called in due to inclement weather, in the case of an emergency, or staff shortage, etc.
Responsibilities: Performs corrective maintenance in the electrical trade groups from work orders, inspections, or supervisor requests with the least disruption to campus activities as possible while performing work at the Journeyman Craftsman level Monitors system conditions while responding appropriately to alarms, troubles, and system malfunctions Performs preventive maintenance from inspections or work orders generated from the computerized Preventive Maintenance system up to or above manufacturer recommendations Records and reports accurate labor hours, materials, costs and inventory use by using current data from reliable sources Ensures that supplies and tools are maintained neatly and in their proper location in order to perform maintenance tasks as necessary Follows all codes and regulations when involved in installation or remodeling jobs Performs the installation of temporary power, equipment or electrical hook up for special events in areas where no power is available while focusing on safety of personnel and surrounding areas Ensures all work meets Local and National Electrical Codes Ensures all repairs are performed in a neat and workmanlike manner Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Virginia Journeyman Electrician License Virginia Master Electrician license, OSHA and first aid/CPR preferred Skilled in troubleshooting electrical systems, devices, equipment, and sensors Demonstrated ability to develop and implement test procedures Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting on various electrical systems from 480 volts down to low voltage control circuits and all associated components Working knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation (HVAC) equipment, VFD's and Motor Control Centers Demonstrated ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings (schematics), block diagrams, flow charts, service manuals and wiring diagrams, and to create electrical, mechanical, and controls-related field sketches Highly skilled in the use of electrical testing devices Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to analyze and solve practical problems with electrical systems and automated controls Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing Demonstrated ability to identify code violations and take the appropriate actions to re-mediate the situation Extensive working knowledge of the National Electrical Code Demonstrated ability to interact appropriately with students, faculty, and staff Demonstrated ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more Demonstrated ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds Demonstrated ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing and/or pulling Basic computer skills Pay Band 3.
