Overview:
Provides direct and indirect patient care services to outpatient pre and post surgery patients, GI patients, infusions and pre-admission testing. Meets psychological, physical and general aspects of care; utilizes the nursing process in planning care. Provides for communication and education needs of patient and family. Provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations. Communicates with physicians and other team members about changes in patients condition, and is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Position Qualifications: Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing: Associate Degree, Bachelors Degree or Diploma
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license
Experience: 3 to 5 years as a practicing RN in various settings in a hospital, medical office
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support or complete upon hire.
Other: Ability to hear and read effectively. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English Ability to navigate effectively in many computer systems. Ability to work in a team focused environment. Ability to work in a rapid-paced work environment. Flexible and able to work independently. Ability to functions in a rapid change environment. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to provide quality bedside patient care.
Preferred Experience: One year of acute care nursing experience; experience in an outpatient surgery or procedural area.

Responsibilities and Qualifications Responsibilities:
Provides direct patient care in a personalized and compassionate manner utilizing nursing process.
A. Successfully demonstrates proficiency of basic skills, equipment, and procedures,
including unit specific skills.
B. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to
patient care.
C. Safely administers medication by following the established policies and
procedures.
D. Uses the nursing process to care plan problems and goals for patients, setting
realistic and measurable goals.
E. Provides nursing care in accordance with the plan of care.
F. Communicates problems to the interdisciplinary team.
G. Monitor alarms are set appropriate to patient status and are responded to without delay.
Documents in a manner which is complete, accurate and legible in all designated
areas:
A. Completes Admission Assessment.
B. Assesses and documents condition of each assigned patient per department policies and as condition
changes.
C. Completes discharge instructions per policy.
D. Completes consent forms according to policy.
E. Completes PTA medication list per policy.
F. Completes flow sheets appropriately.
G. Charting reflects implementation of interventions from the plan of care.
H. Patient education and response is documented.
I. Initiates and updates the plan of care per hospital policy.
J. Documents medication administration appropriately:
* Medications are verified with MAR and actual physician orders.
* Medications and IVs are documented on the MAR, including stop times.
L. Pain assessments are performed and documented per policy.
* Characteristics of pain in addition to numeric assessment
* Pain reassessment within one hour of pain medication administration.
M. Blood products are administered and documented per policy.
* 2nd verifier

Communication skills as evidenced by:
A. Communicates verbally and non-verbally in a concise, effective, and appropriate manner to all hospital
personnel, physicians, patients, and family/significant others:
* Hand-off patient reports are complete, concise, and accurate utilizing SBAR and EMR.
* Communicates with dignity and respect to all personnel, physicians, patients and visitors.
* Reports significant changes in patient and/or clinical area condition to Charge Nurse as appropriate.
* Calls physicians as needed and has all required information available.
* Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
* Notifies Charge Nurse before leaving unit.
* Assists in keeping noise level to a minimum.
B. Displays a positive attitude.
C. Delegation: makes safe and appropriate assignments for co-workers and role models effective
communication and behavior for team members; makes appropriate requests of team and ancillary
personnel.
D. Collaboration/Coordination:
* Ensures patient needs are met and adequate supplies available for oncoming day
* Demonstrates cooperation and support as a team member.
* Works with ancillary departments to schedule tests/procedures to facilitate completion.
E. Education of patient and staff:
* Acts as a change agent to facilitate new processes.
* Evaluates knowledge and provides verbal and written instruction.
F. Answers all pages, call lights, and telephones promptly and professionally. Is able to answer questions or
direct caller to appropriate personnel.
Actively supports Performance Improvement initiatives by following hospital policies, procedures, and programs; provides ongoing peer education (i.e., Customer Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, Co-Worker Satisfaction, and Process Improvement):
A. Reports occurrences and medication events via the Mercy Event Report (MER).
B. Reports allergic/adverse medication reactions to Pharmacy and completes MER.
C. Adheres to Infection Control Policies.
D. Adheres to Employee Health Policies.
E. Performs record reviews and chart audits.
F. Identifies, documents, and reports concerns where improvement will enhance patient care and safety.
Demonstrates behavior that is supportive of cost effective patient care:
A. Sets priorities and utilizes time efficiently in order to complete work on time.
B. Completes timing deficiencies every day.
C. Ensures items used are properly charged and utilized appropriately.
