Reporting to the Director of College Counseling / Strategic Projects, the Director of Institutional Research is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and reporting on a wide range of institutional data to guide strategic school decisions. Additionally, the Director of Institutional Research will assist departments with developing mechanisms for the effective, systematic and long-term capture and use of data.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Employ statistical approaches that produce high-quality metrics that will move the School forward in meeting strategic initiatives
- Develop the necessary mechanisms to enable the School to gather and analyze appropriate data to guide decisions
- Conceive of, implement, and manage research projects
- Design, administer, and analyze data from quantitative and qualitative studies
- Advise on best practices in data management, data analysis, and survey design
- Work with data sets, including exporting/importing from various sources, cleaning data files, merging data and maintaining historical records
- Perform tasks related to establishing and maintaining data integrity standards
- Work with a full range of School constituencies in both data collection and reporting out
- Evaluate external assessments and survey tools and determine their value for the School
- Work with external assessment company representatives to coordinate student assessments and surveys
- Analyze external assessment and survey data and prepare executive summaries for appropriate constituencies
- Stay abreast of latest trends and research in education
- Adhere to strict guidelines on confidentiality
Preferred Work Experience :
- Work in a research position either at the secondary school or higher education level
- Research methods, statistical analysis, data collection, validation, storage, and retrieval techniques
- Familiarity with Blackbaud and SQL databases
- Expertise in presenting analysis and research findings to a wide variety of audiences Knowledge of the latest trends and research in education
- Experience working in high visibility, fast-paced environment
General/Other requirements:
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; take the initiative on projects, and follow through with strong attention to detail
- Ability to troubleshoot/problem-solve independently and as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Successful completion of a background check is required
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an analysis-orientated field or equivalent experience
- Coursework or experiential learning in quantitative and qualitative analysis, statistics, and social science research methods preferred
